In an effort to connect content from the lectures and readings to real-world, sport-related issues, students will participate in an online community with fellow classmates via an online discussion board. Throughout the semester, students will post original content, respond to questions provided by the instructor, and engage in discourse with other students.

The purposes of this team project are to use unique case studies to expand our understanding of the issues that can arise in the management of ordinary organizations, and to apply this knowledge to the context of sport and physical activity administration.

To demonstrate mastery of the subjects discussed in class, students will complete 10 assignments covering a wide range of subjects, including leadership, staffing and career considerations, organizational politics, and quality control. Together, these assignments will culminate in an ePortfolio, an electronic showcase of the student’s work over the semester. In addition to illustrating the student’s ability to plan, organize, lead, and control, the ePortfolio should indicate to prospective employers the student’s readiness to lead.

Regular participation is required and represents a large portion of students’ overall grades. Students are expected to be punctual and prepared for class. Students who are habitually late or leave class meetings prematurely will receive deductions in their Class Participation grade. Students must demonstrate attentiveness to and engagement in classroom discourse.

The corporate report is the written component of the capstone project, in which students will work in teams to develop and present an entrepreneurial business plan.

For the presentation component of the business plan capstone project, teams deliver an oral presentation in which they discuss and defend the elements of their business. Presentations are evaluated based on the team's ability to provide a succinct and persuasive explanation of the organization's purpose and organizational design.

The purpose of the professional dossier is to create a digital showcase of your “brand,” including your existing experience, professional goals, management philosophy, and industry-related skills and achievements. In its completed form, the professional dossier will provide readers a glimpse of your career ambitions and leadership style.
